OBSERVATORY FOR THE PREVENTION OF VIOLENT RADICALIZATION

COORDINATED BY

OPRA Observatory

Radicalisation and violent extremism have completely transformed the phenomenon of violence in recent decades. We now face a new transnational threat with unprecedented levels of lethality. The international community lives in a constant state of alert, and many professionals have come together to study this criminal phenomenon.

The Observatory for the Prevention of Violent Radicalisation was founded in Barcelona in 2016 to respond to the rise of violent radicalisation and to provide prevention and detection tools to communities through direct work in vulnerable environments.

The Observatory is responsible for driving projects and research on violent radicalisation, as well as its prevention and detection. It also promotes counter-narratives against extremist groups, violent urban gangs, and terrorist organisations. Additionally, it carries out direct intervention in the most vulnerable communities and sectors of the population. OPRA aims to be a learning platform for professionals and academics who wish to collaborate or specialise in the field, as well as for students who wish to undertake research internships.

UAV

Advisory and Support Unit for Victims of Violent Radicalisation

MOTIVATION

Although there are various entities and organisations dedicated to providing comprehensive support to the direct victims of terrorism of all kinds, the aim of this multidisciplinary unit, part of CISEG, is to offer support and guidance—through prevention and early detection—to those indirect victims who have a loved one caught up in a process of violent radicalisation.

The Unit is supported by a scientific network of expert collaborators in the field, who contribute to the development of academic guidance, intervention, and support activities.
